Hardware Engineer
MunichAll jobs in Munich (601)
Our Munich engineering team develops advanced systems such as interceptors, launch platforms or reconnaissance drones, as well as quadcopters for military and defense applications. As a Hardware Engineer, you will own products and subsystems from proof of concept through production validation testing (PVT), combining mechatronic design, electronics integration, hands-on prototyping, and hardware validation.
You will collaborate with the Munich Flight Operations, System Integration, and Supply Chain teams, as well as with Zurich’s engineering team, transforming our core technologies into specialized, manufacturing-ready tactical assets.
Responsibilities and Duties
Independently own development of assigned products and subsystems for drone platforms and RF products from PoC through PVT, resolving evolving requirements and taking responsibility for quality, technical trade-offs, and delivery.
Design mechatronic assemblies and integrate electronics, balancing performance, weight, power, reliability, and manufacturability with input from specialist engineers.
Build and iterate prototypes using 3D printing and mechanical assembly; integrate electronics, bring up hardware, and troubleshoot faults using bench measurements, soldering, and PCB rework as needed.
Plan and execute bench, integration, and field tests with Flight Operations and System Integration; verify hardware–firmware interaction, record measurements, investigate failures, and verify fixes.
Evaluate and select components, modules, materials, and suppliers against system requirements; work directly with contract manufacturers on build readiness and pilot production.
Deliver manufacturing handover packages covering CAD and PCB files, BOMs, assembly instructions, and test procedures, enabling manufacturing partners to build and verify reliable hardware consistently.
Qualifications and Skills
3+ years developing robotic, mechatronic, or embedded hardware, with a relevant engineering or Computer Science degree, or equivalent practical experience.
Depth in one discipline and practical breadth across mechanics, electronics, and firmware, demonstrated through working prototypes, debugging, and hardware validation.
Ability to read schematics, understand circuit design choices, and navigate PCB layouts to debug and integrate hardware; proficiency with relevant CAD tools and laboratory instruments.
Working knowledge of C/C++ and Python to support firmware integration, driver testing, and test automation.
Independent problem-solving, clear technical documentation, and effective collaboration in English with engineering, operations, and manufacturing teams.
