Applied Research Scientist, AI Research

Descript is seeking an Applied Research Scientist to join their AI Research team, which operates remotely within the US. The primary focus of this role is on multimodal understanding, specifically developing systems that enable Descript's editing features to analyze and interpret both visual and audio content. Daily tasks will involve building models that enhance the AI editing agent's ability to perceive edited media similarly to a human editor, as well as designing benchmarks to evaluate editorial quality while considering cost and latency. Candidates should have experience in machine learning and model training, particularly in vision-language systems. Familiarity with evaluating creative processes in media editing is also beneficial, as the role addresses open research challenges in this area.
