The Business Operations Internship at Expeditors San Diego (SAN) offers a hands‑on, analytics‑driven experience focused on process improvement, AI innovation, automation, and operational efficiency within a global logistics environment.
This role is designed for a student who is excited about using data, technology, and AI tools to improve how a business operates. The intern will work closely with Business Operations leadership and cross‑functional teams to analyze current processes, identify inefficiencies, and support solutions that improve visibility, accuracy, and productivity across the branch.
The intern will be exposed to real operational data, live workflows, and active improvement initiatives, with opportunities to contribute to projects involving:
Data analytics and reporting
AI‑enabled tools and automation
Process standardization and documentation
Efficiency and performance improvement initiatives
This is a paid, part‑time internship , typically 3–4 months in duration .
Hours: 20 hours per week
Location: On‑site at the Expeditors San Diego (SAN) branch
Key Responsibilities
Support process improvement initiatives by analyzing workflows, identifying gaps, and recommending efficiency improvements
Assist with data analytics and reporting, including:
Cleaning, organizing, and analyzing operational data
Supporting dashboards, scorecards, and performance metrics
Participate in AI and automation initiatives, such as:
Identifying repetitive or manual tasks suitable for automation
Supporting AI‑enabled tools (e.g., reporting automation, workflow optimization, data analysis support)
Help document standard operating procedures (SOPs) and process changes
Analyze trends and performance data to support leadership decision‑making
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams across the branch to support operational initiatives
Provide analytical, documentation, and administrative support as needed
(Responsibilities may evolve based on business needs and intern strengths.)
Minimum Qualifications
Available for 3–4 months
Must be able to work on‑site in San Diego, CA
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
Must not require current or future employment visa sponsorship
Ability to work overtime as needed
Fluent in English (written and verbal)
Desired Qualifications
Currently pursuing or recently completed an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree
(Business, Operations, Analytics, Data Science, Supply Chain, Information Systems, or related field preferred)
Strong interest in data analytics, AI, automation, and process improvement
Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills (data analysis, formulas, pivot tables)
Familiarity with data visualization or analytics tools (e.g., Power BI, Excel, Co-Pilot, etc) is a plus
Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail
Ability to multi‑task, prioritize, and stay organized in a fast‑paced environment
Proactive, curious, and eager to learn new technologies
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a professional environment
Hourly Rate: $19/hour
