Helion is hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer in Everett, WA for an onsite full-time role focused on designing hardware for fusion power prototypes. The position involves taking ownership of subsystem and hardware designs, working across areas such as electromagnetic, structural, fluid, thermal, and control systems, and using CAD and analysis tools to develop and refine solutions. The engineer will also join design reviews, test and troubleshoot hardware, and work closely with technicians and other specialists to bring designs into working systems. What You Will Be Doing:
You will own hardware designs for Helion's fusion generator prototypes. You will solve multidisciplinary engineering problems that are necessary for deploying fusion energy to the world and act as a culture driver on a growing team. This role is onsite at our headquarters in Everett, WA.
You Will:
- Own and understand subsystem designs such as electromagnetic, structural, fluid, thermal and control systems, and improve their requirements
- Learn from historical engineering approaches, design novel hardware, and test your solutions
- Design fusion hardware within 3D CAD software (e.g. NX, Solidworks)
- Perform analysis with tools like ANSYS and hold design reviews to gather feedback and iterate to a fully functioning system
- Learn from experts to expand your engineering skillset and domain knowledge
- Work hands-on alongside experienced technicians to implement your hardware designs
- Troubleshoot hardware issues as they arise on integrated fusion generators
Required Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering
- 8+ years of professional experience delivering on full-scope engineering projects (including schedule ownership)
- Experience applying engineering first-principles and method-based thinking to challenging problems
- Hands-on exposure to a variety of engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, fluids)
- Advanced experience with CAD software (e.g. NX, Solidworks)
- Moderate experience with FEA software (e.g. ANSYS, FEMAP)
- Moderate experience with GD&T and generating engineering drawings per ASME Y14.5
